An Inside Look at Skip Barber Racing School

With weather warm enough to welcome back the Skip Barber Racing School to Lime Rock Park, Lakeville, Conn., and just enough rain to impart a few extra car control skills, students were having a blast this past week! Instructors positioned at the flagging stations evaluated the line, speed, hand position, and braking of each car as it flew past, compiling feedback so that students could immediately correct mistakes and build on successes. Nearby, those enrolled in the Hagerty Driving Academy found out just how good they could be with exercises on the skid pad and practice on the autocross. There was something for everyone—new drivers appreciated their first skids with the calm voice of an instructor in the right seat, race fans got a taste of what it’s really like to open the throttle, and instructors enjoyed nurturing their own passion in others with the same spark. Bonus—students with only a little driving experience got a taste of history as they learned how to drive a manual transmission, then immediately put that skill to use in a beautifully restored 1967 Camaro. Car culture is a lifestyle and the Skip Barber Racing School is helping men and women of all ages to appreciate that lifestyle to the limit. Read about the school in the latest issue of Mesh New England!
